Gilbert "Bert" Lloyd Eagle age 63 of Newport passed away unexpectedly at 9:14pm, Friday, September 11, 2009 in the Emergency Room of Mercy Memorial Hospital.
Gilbert was born on December 30, 1945 in Romulus, Michigan one of sixteen children born from the union of the late James Eagle and the late Alice (Blackmore) Eagle. He attended Flat Rock Schools. He married the former Emma Williams at the Monroe County Courthouse on May 7, 1970.
Gilbert had been employed for more than ten years by Stathakis Systems in Trenton, Michigan. His duties included performing janitorial work in their senior housing division. Gilbert was forced to take a medical retirement several years ago due to health concerns.
Gilbert cherished the time that he spent with his family. He had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren. He could often be found playing with them. Bert also loved Northern Michigan. He took every opportunity afforded him to visit Up North.
He leaves to cherish his memory a beloved wife: Emma Eagle of Newport; two children: including a son: Jeffery Eagle of Newport and a daughter: Jennifer (Danny) Lovell of Monroe; several brothers and sisters; and seven special grandchildren: Shelby, Lindsey, Nicholas, Cody, Clayton, Hailey, and Cole. In addition to his parents his passing was preceded by several brothers and sisters.
Cremation has taken place through Southern Michigan Services in Livonia, Michigan. The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date. Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185 was entrusted with his arrangements.
