Obituary of JoAnn Haedicke-Harmon

Please share a memory of JoAnn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
JoAnn Harmon was born in Shepherd, Michigan on January 27, 1934 to the late Arthur Egbert Field and the late Ann Howard. Her paternal grandparents were Horace B. Field and Vera R. Hurst, and her maternal grandparents were Boone Howard and Mary Arnett. During her childhood, she was very close to her grandmother, Vera, and her great grandmother, Harriet Frances Grieve (McLain), and was inspired by each of them. JoAnn married John F. Haedicke in 1951 and from this union came the birth of three children: John A. Haedicke, Mark E. Haedicke, and Dr. Kay A. Haedicke. JoAnn always emphasized education and a work ethic with her children, each of whom went on to earn advanced college degrees. JoAnn had many hobbies and interests. Although she grew up in a small town, she loved travel. During her life she traveled to most of the 50 states and to many foreign countries. She loved the different cultures and foods she encountered in her travels. She also loved to cook. JoAnn was well known in her family for trying new cuisines and recipes. All three of her children "inherited" her love of cooking. Finally, JoAnn loved flowers and gardening, and created many incredible gardens in the various houses she lived in. In 1988, JoAnn married Howard Harmon, and they lived together until his death in 2002. They shared a love of travel, food, and reading. JoAnn is survived by Mark Haedicke, Dr. Kay Haedicke, her sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Robert Tasker, as well as six grandchildren: Caitlin Braam (Haedicke), Matt Haedicke, Evan Haedicke, Justin Haedicke, Harrison Lowlicht, and Spencer Lowlicht. Arrangements have been entrusted to Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street Monroe, Michigan (734)384-5185. No public services have been planned at this time.
