Ina Theresa Johnson Peters, age 88 of Monroe, Michigan passed to her heavenly home on Sunday, July 26, 2015 at 12:09pm after a brief illness.
Ina was born in Cumberland Gap, Tennessee, on March 8, 1927. She was born of the marriage of Henry Tyler and Mary Elizabeth (Goforth) Johnson. Ina graduated from Powell Valley High School in Claiborne County, Tennessee.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 59 years, Elias "E.C." Creed Peters on November 3, 2003; brother: George Daniel Johnson; sister: Marion Iris; son: Floyd David; and grandson: Ryan Aidan.
She is survived by and will be deeply missed by her son: Charles Kenneth and daughter-in-law: Carol Peters; grandchildren: Michael Eric and Christine Peters, Andrea D. N. and Bradley Russell, Courtney J. E. and Josh Black; great grandchildren: Jessica, Elias, and Jaxson Peters and Preston Russell; and too many precious family and friends to mention.
Ina was a strong Christian woman, a wonderful mother and mother-in-law and loving grandmother. She was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church of Monroe. Ina was an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers. Her other hobbies were baking, church functions, jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, and singing in the JOY Choir.
The family will receive friends from 2:00pm until 6:00pm on Thursday, July 30, 2015 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185. A Celebration of Her Life will immediately follow at 6:00pm. Graveside services will take place at Roselawn Memorial Park at 10:00am on Friday, July 31, 2015. The Reverend Roy Southerland pastor of Monroe Missionary Baptist Church is officiating.
The family would like to thank the caretakers of Medilodge of Monroe Health Facility and Promedica/Mercy Memorial Hospice of Monroe for their loving care.
