Obituary of Kurt Wilcox

Kurt John Wilcox was born in Rickenbacker, Germany on November 22, 1954. He was the son of Elizabeth (Decker) Wilcox. As a young boy, Kurt lived a few years in France before moving to Hawaii in 1960. He later moved to Colorado. Kurt enlisted in the United States Army on September 26, 1974. He served honorably as an M-16 Rifle Sharpshooter being separated on September 23, 1977.
Following his military discharge, Kurt made his home in Monroe. He attended Monroe County Community College taking electrical courses to further his education. A Journeyman Electrician by trade, Kurt was employed by Taylor Welded Blanks for more than twelve years as a Press Operator. He took a medical retirement in 2011.
Kurt was dedicated and hardworking to everything he did. He was very intelligent, naming Albert Einstein, as one of his personal heroes. He loved tinkering with anything electrical. He also enjoyed woodworking.
Kurt had earned his pilot's license and enjoyed the freedom that flying provided. As a talented musician, he enjoyed opportunities to sing and play the guitar. As a music lover, Kurt enjoyed attending Jazz Events and concerts.
He was known for being extremely generous and caring to his family and friends. Kurt loved to meet new people and always lent a helping hand whenever he could. Kurt loved to be outside and enjoyed bicycle riding around town and fishing.
Kurt, age 60 of Monroe, passed away at 12:05am on Thursday, July 23, 2015 at the VA Hospital in Ann Arbor. His passing was preceded by his mother: Elizabeth.
To cherish his memory, Kurt leaves two brothers: Charles (Victoria) Wilcox of Monroe and James (Paula) Wilcox of Temperance; niece: Jennifer (Nathan) Harbaugh of Temperance; nephew: Jason Wilcox of Temperance; two great nieces: Audrey and Nora; step niece: Sylena McGowan of Monroe; two step nephews: William McGowan II of Fort Jackson, North Carolina and Justin (Melissa) McGowan of Monroe; two great step niece and nephew: Kyleh Stumpmier and Chase McGowan.
Graveside services will be at 10:00am on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Road; Holly, Michigan 48442. Merkle Funeral Service; 2442 North Monroe Street (734)384-5185 has been entrusted with his arrangements.
