Thomas "Tom" Allen Jones
August 26, 1951 - July 13, 2015
Thomas Allen Jones was born in Monroe on August 26, 1951. He was the oldest of three children born from the union of the late Irvin and Betty (Matteson) Jones. Tom was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and School where he was baptized, educated, and confirmed. He then attended Jefferson High School graduating with the Class of 1969.
Tom enlisted in the United States Army honorably serving his country actively from 1971-1972, and then an additional five years with the Army Reserves. Proud of his military service he continued giving in many capacities including: President of the Friends of Squier-Ingram VFW Post 3943 for fifteen years, Past Commander and Founding Member of Matt Urban Post 40 American Legion, AmVets, Legion Riders, 40&8 Legion, VFW Post 1138 Ritual Team. Tom loved to cook and spent many hours preparing for fish fries and spaghetti dinners.
For forty-four years Tom worked in the grocery business. He served several area employers including Wrigley Foods and Great Scott before spending the latter part of his career as a Produce Manager with the Kroger Company, retiring in 2013.
Tom married the former Pamela Kropff on June 6, 1990 in Toledo. He was always the entertainer and enjoyed the company of others, none more than his beloved grandchildren. Tom was also an avid Detroit Tiger fan.
Tom age 63 of Monroe passed away on Monday; July 13, 2015 at Promedica Monroe Regional Hospital. His loving family was by his side.
To cherish his memory he leaves a beloved wife of twenty-five years: Pamela Kropff-Jones of Monroe; three children: Thomas Jones II of Monroe; Elizabeth Jones of Erin, Tennessee, and Adam Kropff of Romulus; twin sisters: Patricia Bernard of Carleton and Pamela (Russell) Sutherland of Monroe, six grandchildren: Aniya Daniel, Tylee Daniel, Holden Kropff, Mina Kropff, Eden Sontag, and Eli Kropff.
Friends may gather at 1:00pm on Saturday, August 15, 2015 at LaSalle Township Cemetery on Swartz Road (between South Dixie and Telegraph) for a graveside service under the auspices of Monroe VFW Post 1138. Guests are invited back to the Squier-Ingram VFW Post, 5144 North Dixie Highway in Newport for a Celebration of His Life. Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe (734) 384-5185 has been entrusted with arrangements.
