Gloria Jean Jones was born in Detroit, Michigan on June 25, 1941. She was the one of six children born from the union of the late Thomas and the late Lorraine (Smith) Muirhead.
She married the love of her life, Wesley Jones on January 30, 1976 in Detroit, Michigan. Gloria maintained the home, and raised their dogs, enjoying being spoiled by her husband. In 2011, Wesley and Gloria moved from Detroit, making Monroe their home.
Gloria was a one of a kind woman and loved her family. She always looked forward to family functions and next family get-together. In Gloria's free time she would often be watching the television, either watching Walker Texas Ranger or shows about Elvis Presley. She also enjoyed playing bingo down in southern Ohio and playing games on the computer in her later years. Gloria enjoyed going to the horse track and watch the races with her husband.
Gloria Jean Jones, age 74, of Monroe passed away unexpectedly at 12:36pm on Monday, July 6, 2015 in her home. In addition to her parents, her passing was preceded by two brothers: William "Bill" Muirhead and Thomas "Tommy" Muirhead; and two sisters: Keitha Cooper and Opal Muirhead.
To cherish her memory she leaves her loving husband of thirty nine years: Wesley Jones of Monroe; two sisters: Nora (John) Smith of Taylor, Michigan and Viola Muirhead of Lincoln Park, Michigan; and her loving pet companion: Frisky her Chihuahua.
Friends and Family may gather from 4:00pm - 8:00pm on Thursday, July 9, 2015, and from 2:00pm -8:00pm, Friday, July 10, 2015 at Merkle Funeral Service; 2442 North Monroe Street (734)384-5185. A Celebration of Her Life will take place at 11:00am on Saturday, July 11, 2015 also at Merkle's with Pastor Roy Sutherland of Monroe Missionary Baptist Church officiating. Procession will follow to St. Joseph's Cemetery in Monroe, Michigan for final interment.
