Hortense Gutierrez was born in San Antonio, Texas on February 12, 1930. She was one of eight children born from the late Primitivo and the late Margarita (Talamentez) Gutierrez.
Hortense would marry the love of her life: Jose Ramon on December 13, 1956 in Laredo, Texas. From this marriage they would raise six wonderful children together. Hortense was a devoted, loving and supportive wife and mother. Jose passed away on February 5, 1968. Hortense being the hardworker that she was took employment with Edgewood Nursing Home on Dorr Street in Toledo to support her family. Here she would serve as a Nurse's Aide for twenty-five years retiring in 2000.
Hortense more than anything enjoyed the company of her family, and she was a wonderful grandmother to all her grandchildren. She loved to cook and liked to make everyone their favorite meals. To stay active, Hortense loved going shopping and garage saling.
Although, not an active church-goer, Hortense put much emphasis on her faith taking time to study the Bible each day. In her spare time she could be found crocheting beautiful afghans, reading items of varied interests, and watching old westerns.
