Sewell Lingar, 80, of Monroe passed away December 20, 2008 at 1:10 p.m. in Mercy Memorial Hospital. Born March 14, 1928 in Harrogate TN, he was the son of Ella Mae Lingar. He married Montana Dye on October 23, 1948. Sewell worked for Consolidated Paper Company until he retired in 1978. He worked as a Machine Operator and was a former union steward. Baseball was one of his favorite past times, especially watching his favorite team, the New York Yankees. Sewell will be dearly missed by his wife, Montana. They just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this past October. He also leaves behind his children, Larry (Cynthia), Tom (Theresa), Ginger (Jerry) Mason and Lisa (Marty) Goins; a sister, Alma Rasey; 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by a son Gregory Mark Lingar and a brother Winston Lingar. Friends may visit Monday from 2:00-8:00 p.m. at the Monroe location of Bennett-Prochnow Funeral Home where services will be held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. officiated by Pastor Paul Romer from the First Wesleyan Church. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery. Anyone who wishes to contribute a memorial donation is asked to consider the Monroe Humane Society, First Wesleyan Church or Bible Fellowship Church.
