Marian E. Navarre
July 1, 1929 - June 4, 2015
Marian E. Lajiness was born in Monroe on July 1, 1929. She was the only daughter of three children born from the union of the late Arthur and Marie (Duby) Lajiness. Marian attended Monroe High School and graduated with the Class of 1946.
On May 28, 1949 she married the love of her life Richard Ernest Navarre. Together the couple would share in the birth of two children. They raised their family in a Christian home receiving spiritual nourishment at Stewart Road Church of God. Marian took great pride in caring for her family, and she helped to support their needs working as a clerk at La-Z-Boy for seventeen years.
Marian enjoyed staying active being a member of Frenchtown Senior Citizens, Monroe Center for Healthy Aging, and Golden Ages at Stewart Road. Even after losing her sight a few years ago, she was determined to not let it keep her down. She became active with V.I.P. (Vision Impaired Program) for the legally blind. Marian loved to travel and she often played bingo with her senior groups.
Marian cherished the time she spent with family and grandchildren were especially important. She loved going out to eat and often attended Ford UAW group meals of which her husband had been a member.
Marian E. Navarre, age 85, of Monroe passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 4, 2015 at her daughter's home in Huntsville, Alabama. In addition to her parents, her passing was preceded by her husband: Richard on January 1, 2010; and a brother: Edward.
To cherish Marian's memory she leaves her daughter: Sandra Kay (Alan) Brodie of Huntsville; son: Robert "Bob" (Annette) Navarre of Monroe; brother: Norman (Barb) Lajiness of Monroe; five grandchildren: Missy (Will) Mata, Lisa (Jon) Stewart, Lindsay Navarre, Kellyann Navarre, and Joey Navarre; four great grandchildren: Natalie, Anna, and Brendon Stewart, and Raif Mata.
Friends may gather from 4:00-8:00pm on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at Merkle Funeral Service, South Monroe; 14567 South Dixie Highway (734) 241-7070. A Celebration of Her Life will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 also at Merkle's with Reverend Joseph Byrd pastor of Stewart Road Christian Ministries officiating. Procession will follow to Roselawn Memorial Park in LaSalle for burial.
