Walter "Wally" Frederick Cron
January 5, 1934 - April 29, 2015
Walter F. Cron passed away peacefully on Wednesday; April 29, 2015 at Wellspring Lutheran Services. He was born on January 5, 1934 in Monroe, Michigan from the union of the late Harold and Esther (Howe) Cron. He married the love of his life and best friend, LaDonna Jackson, on January 18, 1957 in San Antonio, Texas.
Wally had a great sense of humor. Those that knew him learned quickly that if he gave you a hard time, he liked you. He loved camping with his wife, LaDonna, woodworking, Michigan Football, and Dalmatians. Throughout his life, Wally prided himself in his flourishing vegetable gardens and beautiful rose bushes.
Wally loved his family unconditionally. He was the best dad, grandpa, father-in-Law, brother, and friend that anyone could ever ask for, and all were blessed to have him in their lives.
Walter graduated from Monroe High School in 1953. He enlisted in the United States Army and served honorably from 1955-1957 as a Military Policeman. He served in the Reserves from 1957-1961. Walter started working for the Monroe Evening News while he was in high school. He enjoyed his job as a Pressman and eventually as a Pressroom Foreman before retiring in 1998.
He is survived by three daughters: Kim (Stephen) Torrance of Monroe; Kathy ( Mark) Marino of Glennie, Michigan; and Terri (Jim) Stalbaum of Newport, nine grandchildren: Tiffany (Daniel ) Clark, Eric (Jessica) Torrance, Christopher (Nicole) Marino, Brandi (Gary) Zielke, Matthew Marino, Justin Cochran, Sara Stalbaum, Samantha Stalbaum; and Cheyanne Stalbaum; four great-grandchildren: Mackenzie Clark, Olivia Clark, Justin Cochran Jr. , and Keira Cochran; a sister: Joan MacDonald of Dearborn, and a brother: Robert Cron of Peralta, New Mexico.
In addition to his parents, his passing was preceded by his beloved wife: LaDonna on July 9, 2002, daughter: Lori Cochran, and a stillborn son: Michael.
Family and friends may gather from 2:00pm until 3:00pm on Sunday, May 3, 2015 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 323 Scott Street. A Celebration of his Life will follow at 3:00pm also at the church with Pastor Daniel Potts officiating. Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe (734) 384-5185 has been entrusted with arrangements.
