Obituary of Gail Holbrook
Please share a memory of Gail to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Gail C. Holbrook was born in Elsie, Michigan on September 12, 1931. He was one of six children born from the union of the late Gail and Leoma (Woodworth) Holbrook Sr. Gail graduated from Owosso High School and honorably served in the United States Air Force, during the Korean War.
He married the love of his life Mary Faunt on November 20, 1954 in Erie, Michigan. The Holbrook family built the first home in Luna Pier after it became a city in 1963. Gail would eventually become an integral part of the city. With his background in construction it was a natural fit to become the building inspector in 1974. In the late 1970's Gail obtained his Assessor II status. In 1984, Gail became the City Administrator. He held all of the positions concurrently. In 1991, Gail was elected by the people to serve as Mayor of Luna Pier, Michigan. With all these contributions he was a natural selection in 2002 as the Luna Pier Citizen of the Year.
Gail was Charter Member and Past Commander and Treasurer of the Luna Pier American Legion, and a member of Disabled Vets. For more than thirty years he played Santa Claus at local schools, community events, and nursing homes.
Gail had a great sense of humor and always gave to those in need. He enjoyed spending time with his family and in his quiet time, Gail enjoyed watching the Tigers with his feline companion, "Hopper."
Gail, age 83, passed away at 11:22am, Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at his home. In addition to his parents, his passing was preceded by his beloved wife: Mary Holbrook; one sister Shirley Woodard; and three brothers: Louis, Robert and Clyde Holbrook.
