Obituary of Vaden Williams

Vaden Miller was born in Rumsey, Kentucky on January 11, 1920. She was one nine children born from the union of the late James T. Miller and the late Lena (Rickard) Miller. After high school , Vaden attended Murray State University with the intentions of becoming a Home Economics Teacher or a Dietician. Due to the start of WWII, she was unable to complete her goal.
Vaden married the late Woodrow Williams. Together they built their first home in Monroe in 1946, along with their parents and several siblings. Vaden was a dependable and hard worker, supporting her family as a Bookkeeper at several locations throughout Monroe and Toledo. Her favorite position was in Resource Advocacy at the Monroe County Opportunity Program where she worked into her mid-80's.
Vaden, beyond being an upstanding citizen, was steadfast and generous with her family and friends. Vaden cherished the time spent with her girlfriends playing bingo and eating out. She liked canning and cooking for family occasions and was known for serving her famous apple fritters and holiday fruit cake.
Vaden enjoyed traveling nationally and internationally with her children. In her quiet time, she could be found sewing clothing and other household items.
Vaden Williams, age 95, of Monroe passed away peacefully at Fountain View of Monroe on Thursday, July 9, 2015 after a yearlong stay. In addition to her parents, her passing was preceded by seven siblings; and her dear friend and former husband: Woodrow "Woody" W. Williams.
She is survived by her two children: Fred (Susan) Williams of Monroe, Karen (Tim McKee) Williams of Bethesda, Maryland; their half-sister: Rhonda (Scott) Pease of St. Johns, Michigan; a sister: Vivian Eulene Davenport of Mission Viejo, California; seven grandchildren: Robert (Lora) Williams, Garilynn (Dan) Stotz, Douglas (Becky) Tomkinson, Megan (Jeremy) Healey, Amber Steffen, Justin Pease, Kenway (Stacy) Hensley; twelve great grandchildren: Marshall Williams, Jacob and Jessica Stotz, Abbie and Trevor Tomkinson, Jack, Becca, Cate, Grace and Cara Healey, and Anora and Dalton Steffen; and several nieces and nephews including Joyce (Bill) Nelson of Valparaiso, Indiana, and Patricia and Bob Pocs of LaSalle who will miss her dearly.
A Celebration of Her Life will take place at 1:30pm, Saturday, July 11 at Roselawn Memorial Park, 13200 South Dixie Highway, LaSalle. Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe (734) 384-5185 has been entrusted with her arrangements.
