Constance Augusta Lillian Czischke was born April 25, 1918 in Detroit, Michigan. She was the daughter of the late Otto Czischke and the late Clara (Gast) Czischke. Connie attended school in Detroit and earned her diploma from Southeastern High School. Following high school she attended Business School for six months.
Connie married the love of her life Bernard Henry Craft on August 11, 1938 in Detroit. She worked as a secretary for many years. Her employment was served with several local companies including the Unemployment Office, Monroe Auto Equipment, and Premier Industries.
Connie was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Monroe. She had also been an active member until recently of the Brest Bay Gun Club. Connie was also a member of the Frenchtown Senior Citizens Center. In her free time Connie enjoyed spending time with her family. She also listed several hobbies including flower arranging and flower gardening, creating ceramic with clay, and card playing including her favorite games of Euchre, Keno, and Buncko.
Constance L. Craft age 91, of Monroe was called home at 12:21am; Thursday, October 29, 2009 while a patient at Mercy Memorial Hospital. In addition to her parents her passing was preceded by her husband, Bernard who passed on October 24, 1975; a son-in-law: Lewis Lake; a brother: Gordon Czischke; two grandsons: Michael Fountain and Robert Fountain Jr.; and a great-great granddaughter: Hanna Yoakum.
She leaves to cherish her memory four daughters: Nancy (Lowell) Sloan of Litchfield, Michigan, Beverly Lake of Adrian, Michigan, Arlyne Balog of Monroe, Michigan, and Karen (Dave) Walerius of Monroe, Michigan; a sister: Geraldine Owens of New Baltimore, Michigan; numerous grandchildren; great grandchildren; and great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews.
Friends may gather from 2:00pm until 8:00pm, Sunday, November 1, 2009 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185. A Celebration of Her Life will be held at 11:00am on Monday, November 2, 2009 also at Merkle Funeral Service. The Rev. Jeffrey Walsh pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church will officiate. Procession will follow to Roselawn Memorial Park in LaSalle for burial.
