Obituary of Steven Casto

Steven Lee Casto Sr. was born in Nitro, West Virginia on January 15, 1957. He was one of four children born from the union of the late Lyon and Dorothy (Riffle) Casto. Steven was raised by his mother Dorothy and his step-father, Cobb Gillispie. Steven attended Monroe schools. Steven married the love of his life, the former Caroline Philbeck on March 14, 1998 in Monroe, Michigan. The couple would share in raising three children. He was well liked by everyone who knew him and was well respected because held no punches, known for "telling it like it is." Steven was a very hard and dedicated worker. He appreciated the outdoors so much that he went into business operating his own local landscaping business, Steve's Lawn Service. Steven enjoyed motocross sports, hunting, fishing and camping. Steven was very loving and he cherished the time spent with his wife, children and grandchildren, often entertaining them at frequent backyard barbeques. Steven Lee Casto Sr., age 57, of Monroe passed away at Hospice of Northwest Ohio on Sunday, January 11, 2015. In addition to his parents, his passing was preceded by a sister: Wanda King. To cherish his memory Steven leaves his beloved wife of sixteen years: Caroline Casto; three children: Steven Lee Casto Jr., Shannon Casto and Amy (Kevin) Wilson all of Monroe; three brothers: Ronnie (Kathy) Casto of Monroe, Gary (Susie) Casto of Monroe and Harold (Cheryl) Gillispie of Florida; a brother-in-law: Terry King of West Virginia; six grandchildren: Destiney (Kevin) Bray, Ariel (John Rectenwal) Casto, Steven Casto III, Dustin Wilson, Brianna Wilson and Chad Wilson; two great grandchildren: Vanessa and Alexis; several nieces and nephews and a cousin: Homer (Judy) Hamrick, who grew up with Steven and considered him a brother. Friends may gather from 2:00pm until 8:00pm on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at Merkle Funeral Service, North Monroe; 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185. A Celebration of His Life will take place at 11:00am on Thursday, January 15, 2015 also at Merkle's. Procession will follow to Roselawn Memorial Park in LaSalle for burial.
