Obituary of Joan Kay Coldwell
Joan Kay Kern was born on October 15, 1942, in Toledo, Ohio. She was one of nine children born from the union of Kenneth Kern and Dorothy (Ferguson) Kern. She graduated with the class of 1960, from Anthony Wayne High School in Whitehouse, Ohio.
Joan married the love of her life, Thomas Coldwell, on June 24, 1961, and the happy couple were blessed with the birth of two children. To help provide for her family, she was employed as a medical receptionist.
Joan was a beloved member of the women's group at Dundee United Methodist Church. She found joy in her community through activities at the Dundee Senior Center, where she shared her passion for crocheting beautiful Afghans. While crocheting was a cherished hobby, she also found delight in the thrill of hunting for treasures at garage sales and shopping excursions of all kinds. Joan was an avid member of the book club at the Dundee library. Although her love for reading brought her much happiness, the Covid pandemic sadly interrupted her participation in the program. Throughout her life, Joan was extremely proud of her only grandchild, Spencer, and cherished every moment she spent with him.
