Obituary of Walter Reginald Reaume Jr.
Walter Reginald Reaume Jr. was born in Monroe, Michigan on February 2, 1952. He was the middle of five children and the only son born to Walter and Evelyn (Bastien) Reaume Sr. He attended Jefferson High School. Not one to be tied down, after high school, Walter spent many years traveling with Bill’s Amusements Carnival where he operated rides and conducted games.
Walter loved working in his yard and had a natural ability to cultivate plants and flowers. His green thumb made him a natural fit for Post Greenhouse in Rockwood, Michigan where he was employed as a maintenance man for many years. Walter was also a talented cook and baker. He often used his homegrown canned tomatoes in his recipes. Cheesecake and apple pie were his specialty desserts.
Walter had a deep appreciation for the great outdoors. He enjoyed fishing on Lake Erie and hunting for deer in Hillsdale and Houghton Lake, Michigan. Walter was extremely talkative and never met a stranger. He seemed to know everything about everyone. Walter enjoyed socializing at the Monroe Moose Lodge. He was also a regular at Denny’s restaurant in Monroe where he’d chat up the wait staff while eating breakfast and sipping on coffee for hours.
Walter Reginald Reaume Jr., age 72, of Monroe, Michigan, passed away peacefully at Regency, a Villa Center in Taylor, Michigan on Saturday; February 10, 2024. His passing was preceded by his parents; two sisters: Sally Harper and Penny Reaume; and three brothers-in-law: William LaFountain Jr., Ray Goethe, and John Harper.
To cherish his memory, Walter leaves a daughter: Sandra Reaume of New Boston, Michigan; a grandson: William Bomia III; two sisters: Joyce Chavez and Judy Goethe both of Monroe; several nieces and nephews; and his longtime friend: Jim.
A celebration of Walter’s life is being planned for a later date. His care has been entrusted to Merkle Funeral Service, North Monroe; 2442 North Monroe Street, Monroe, Michigan 48162 (734) 384-5185. Cremation has taken place at the on-site crematory, Covenant Cremation of Erie, Michigan.
