Obituary of Jerry Coeburn Greene
Jerry Coeburn Greene was born on March 31, 1940 in Harlan, Kentucky. He was the only child born from the union of Coeburn Greene and Novella (Haynes) Greene. He graduated from Hall High School in Harlan in 1958.
Jerry married the former Charlene Vaughn in Jonesville, Virginia on July 20, 1962. To serve his country, he enlisted in the United States Army obtaining the rank of Sergeant. He was honorably discharged on March 31, 1965. In 1969, the young family moved to Michigan. Jerry took a position with Chrysler Automotive at the Trenton Engine Plant. He worked many years as a Production Supervisor, retiring on March 28, 1998.
For many years, Jerry was an avid golfer. He and his bride enjoyed traveling when they were younger taking trips to Hawaii, Mexico, and Jamaica. He was a music buff, playing the blue grass banjo. Jerry enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was well-loved by his grandchildren, who bestowed upon him the title “Opa” and the nickname stuck.
Jerry Coeburn “Opa” Greene, age 83 of LaSalle passed away at 4:16pm on Tuesday; January 23, 2024, at his home. Surrounded by his family, he was under the care of Elara Caring Hospice. His passing was preceded by his parents; two daughters: Lisa Greene in 2015 and Kimberly Greene an infant in the 1960's; and a son: Christopher Greene in 2012.
To cherish his memory, he leaves his beloved wife of sixty-one years: Charlene Greene; two children: Mark Greene of Temperance, Michigan and Tina (Dave) Pillarelli of Ida, Michigan; nine grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
No public services are planned. His care has been entrusted to Merkle Funeral Service, South Monroe; 14567 South Dixie Highway, Monroe, Michigan 48161 (734) 241-7070. Cremation has taken place through the on-site crematory, Covenant Cremation of Erie, Michigan. Scattering of his cremated remains will take place in the Butterfly Garden at Roselawn Memorial Park in LaSalle, Michigan.
