Obituary of Lynda Jean Johnson
Lynda Jean Powers was born on October 20, 1944, in Monroe, Michigan. She was the middle of three daughters born to the union of Rolland Powers and Mildred (Hammer) Powers. Lynda was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church where she was also educated at the day school. She attended Monroe High School, graduating with the Class of 1962.
While still in high school, Lynda met her future husband, Daniel Leonard Johnson at the Riverside Skating Rink. The young couple soon became an item and were joined in holy matrimony on June 6, 1964, at St. Mary’s Parish. They were blessed with three children. When all the children began attending school, she sought employment outside the home, taking a position as an Elementary Teachers Assistant for Monroe Public Schools. Throughout her thirty-year career she spent time at Waterloo, Riverside, and Townsite Elementary before retiring in 2010.
Lynda stayed very busy. She enjoyed scrapbooking, sharing this favorite pastime with her daughter Cindy and sister Sally, and try as they might, they could never quite convince sister Sue to pick up the hobby. Lynda also liked embroidery and sewing, often making clothing for the children when they were young. As they matured they took on the responsibility of helping to create their own outfits. She was an avid reader and appreciated the challenge afforded her mind with puzzle books including crosswords and word searches. Lynda was also very serious in her online solitaire presence having some sixty different apps installed on her phone, and with her collection of Precious Moments figurines.
Family was most important to her, and being the family photographer, she made it her mission to capture their adventures with pictures. From the time spent vacationing to local family gatherings, she cherished her children and grandchildren. Many wonderful memories can be recalled of holiday and birthday extravaganzas, summer picnics, or just hanging out sharing conversation.
