Obituary of Wilbert Grassel
Wilbert Grassel was born on September 15, 1931, in Nankin Township, now known as Westland, Michigan. He was one of eleven children born from the union of John and Anna (Boesch) Grassel. Bill married the love of his life the former Georgetta Carney and the couple was blessed with the birth of five children. To provide for his family, Bill had a long and fulfilling career at General Motors. For more than thirty years, he worked as a heat treater in the parts department. Bill also proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.
Wilbert, fondly known as Bill, lived a life filled with adventure, love, and perseverance. In his younger years, he displayed his boldness and competitive spirit by participating in bowling mixed and men's leagues. When Bill wasn't tossing the ball down the bowling alley, he had another passion – exploring the natural beauty of Michigan's state parks. Along with his beloved family, he would embark on camping trips, including venturing to the picturesque upper peninsula. Traveling in their trusty pop-up, they spent summers gazing at the stars in various states like Ohio, Florida, and Texas, creating cherished memories that lasted a lifetime.
One of the things that truly defined Bill was his commitment to family. Each evening, he made it a priority to gather everyone around the dinner table, cherishing those moments of togetherness and creating a strong bond within his family. He found immense joy being surrounded by loved ones and creating a warm, loving environment.
Life took an unexpected turn for Bill when he encountered a tragic car accident three decades ago. A drunk driver crashed into him, leaving him hospitalized for over a year. The incident was life-altering, but Bill's resilience and strength prevailed. His unwavering determination allowed
him to overcome the challenges he faced and continue living a fulfilling life surrounded by the love and support of his family.
