Obituary of Robert Joseph Sexton
Robert Joseph Sexton was born in Detroit, Michigan on August 26, 1980, the son of Donna Renee Sexton. He was raised in Southwest Detroit. He proudly stood 6’7’”. Unfortunately, at the young age of just 25 he was diagnosed with congestive heart failure.
On August 23, 2018, Robert married the love of his life, Erica Lynn (Lucio), in Toledo, Ohio. Together the couple raised their six children.
Robert had a genuine passion for all things old and remarkable. He would spend hours engrossed in watching shows like "American Pickers" and "Pawn Stars," fascinated by the stories and history behind the items. His enthusiasm extended to his personal life, as he collected various treasures from thrift stores and consignment shops, cherishing the nostalgia they carried.
Above all else, Robert's heart belonged to his children. They were his greatest source of joy, and he loved them with an unwavering devotion that knew no bounds. They crafted many memories. Robert often sat and built intricate Lego structures with them, and he might pull out the tools to tinker on the bikes of his children and even other neighborhood children’s bikes. He always went above and beyond to ensure the happiness and well-being of those around him.
Robert Joseph Sexton, age 42, of Luna Pier passed away at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit on Wednesday; July 12, 2023. His passing was preceded by his uncle: Michael; mother: Donna; and grandmother: Sandy.
To cherish his memory, he leaves his beloved wife: Erica Sexton; six children: Athena Lucio, Trinity Sexton, Nystalia Gist, Nicodemus Gist, Ellora Sexton, and Osiris Sexton; an aunt: Josette Sexton; an uncle: Jeff Sexton; mother-in-law: Anna Lucio (Clayton Lammon); and numerous cousins.
Friends may gather from 1:00pm until 3:00pm on Sunday; July 30, 2023, at Merkle Funeral Service, South Monroe; 14567 South Dixie Highway, Monroe, Michigan 48161 (734) 241-7070. A Celebration of His Life will follow at 3:00pm, also at Merkle’s. Cremation will take place through the on-site crematory: Covenant Cremation of Erie, Michigan.
