I first met Larry when he was in the 8th grade. I coached travel basketball and I heard of a tall 6'4 kid from Zion Lutheran. Surprising after I reached out to Larry parents I discovered Larry was actually a 6'6" 8th grader and he still a a summer growth in front of his 9th grade year. Larry joined a very special team that year. We went on to win the State of Michigan and the Midwest championships which then put us in the United States finals in Frankfort Ky. We ended up finishing in 3rd place nationally losing a heartbreaking game to a team we had earlier beaten in the Midwest Semi-Finals in Fort Wayne Indiana. Larry was a big part of the success of this team which featured a future lottery pick in the NBA draft and several division 1 basketball players including Larry. This was only the beginning to get to know Larry and his family. This family became good friends of mine and we always stayed in touch. I visited Larry a few times in his last days including the Sunday morning before he passed. I was very lucky to meet Larry and his family including his wife Amy and his Daughter Alayna.

Quite by chance, I have known 4 generations of Larry's family beginning with his Grandpa Mel, his uncle Mel, his parents while Larry played basketball at SMCC where my children attended and finally at St. Joe's in Erie where Alayna was a good friend with my twin grandsons. All were good people and may Larry enjoy eternal rest in their company. My deepest sympathies to Amy and Alayna. Sue Johnson
