Obituary of Tyrant L. Tyree
Tyrant L. Tyree was born in Memphis, Tennessee on April 28, 1959. He was one of eight children born from the union of John and Earline (Davis) Tyree. He attended Monroe Public Schools graduating From Monroe High with the Class of 1978. Tyrant was a force to be reckoned with on the wrestling mat. In fact, he was twice named a wrestling champion at Monroe High School and was the Wrestler of the Year by a special edition of Sports Illustrated in 1978. He was also inducted into the Monroe High School Hall of Fame. Following commencements, Tyrant furthered his education by attending classes at the University of Toledo, where he continued wrestling.
Tyrant knew the value of hard work and held positions at several different places throughout his lifetime. Most notably, he was employed as a truck driver and boiler operator at the Jefferson Smurfit Paper Company.
Tyrant L. Tyree, age 64 of Toledo, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday; May 21, 2023, at St. Anne Mercy Hospital in Toledo, Ohio. His passing was preceded by his parents and two brothers: Robert Davis and Alton Cox.
To cherish his memory, he leaves two twin sons: Terrell Tyree (LaToneya McClain), Durell Tyree; two grandchildren: Trenton Tyree and Knowledge Tyree; a great granddaughter: Aniya Tyree; three sisters: Mary (Garfield) Jackson, Doris Cox, and Diane Edwards; three brothers: Rondias (Myra) Cox, John (Linda) Tyree, and Quillian Tyree; Special friends: Jimmy Snodgrass; Daphne Tyree and Daphne’s granddaughter: Raegan Thomas, along with Daphne’s four daughters and a host of family and friends.
Friends may gather on Saturday; June 3, 2023, from 10:00am until 12:00pm at Merkle Funeral Service, South Monroe; 14567 South Dixie Highway, Monroe, Michigan 48161 (734) 241-7070. A Homegoing Celebration of Life will take place at 12:00pm also at Merkle’s. Procession will follow to Roselawn Memorial Park in LaSalle for burial.
