Obituary of John H. Straub
John H. Straub was born in Monroe, Michigan on September 9, 1939. He was the only child born from the union of Herman Sylvester and Ann Katherine (Atchtison) Straub. John graduated from Monroe Catholic Central. He married the love of his life, the former Judith VanEtten on April 8, 1961. Together the happy couple was blessed with the birth of three children. To provide for his family, he would be gainfully employed as a tool and die maker for over forty-two years by the NSK Corporation. This position proved to be John’s passion as he enjoyed to building things, especially antique cars. His children fondly recall planting sunflowers which took up half the backyard when they bloomed.
In his free time, John enjoyed turkey hunting and fishing in Irish Hills. He hunted just for sport and the pure relaxation. To practice his aim, John often took to trap shooting. He was able to continue this training into his late 70’s, when he had a knee replacement, then unfortunately the covid pandemic prevented him from getting back to it.
It was often jokingly stated that John liked his grandchildren more than he liked his own children. He enjoyed simply being in their presence and observing whatever they were doing. John loved to eat, in fact, he always asked visitors, “want to get a cheeseburger”, upon their arrival.
