Obituary of Thelma Mae Thompson
Thelma Mae Heiden was born in Petersburg, Michigan on August 1, 1927. She was one of six children born from the union of Carl Heiden and Lillian (Hoffman) Heiden. She attended Petersburg High School graduating with the Class of 1945.
Thelma was employed in a tomato factory, the College Inn Canning Company in Dundee prior to her marriage to Arthur L. "Bud" Thompson, Jr. They were joined in wedlock at home in Petersburg, Michigan on June 18, 1947. For many years, Sissy, cared for the needs of her husband as a homemaker. For some time, she worked at the Petersburg Municipal Building as a cleaner.
Thelma regularly worshipped at Petersburg Methodist Church until its closing. She and Bud loved to spend time together and traveling and camping were favorite pastimes. Although the couple never had children of their own, Thelma, thought of her sister Janet’s kids as her own. She was known for her kindness and willingness to help anyone. She was very sweet and yet quite strong willed.
Thelma loved to spend time with family and looked forward each year to Christmas. She loved gardening and tending to her roses.
Thelma Mae “Sissy” Thompson, age 95, of Monroe passed away at Fountainview of Monroe at 3:00am on Monday; October 31, 2022. She was formerly a resident of Brookdale. Thelma was under the care of Elara Caring Hospice. Her passing was preceded by the love of her life, Arthur L. “Bud” Thompson Jr., on August 27, 1990; her mother in 1991; her father in 1947; four brothers: Charles in 1941, Jerry in 1957, Harold “Mud” in 2001, and Danny in 2006; her sister: Janet Spaulding in 2020; her brother-in-law: John Spaulding in 2013; and a nephew: Rodd Heiden.
To cherish her memory she leaves nieces and nephews: Cindy (Rob) Justice of Dundee, Chris (Mark) McDonnell of Dundee, Connie (Eric) Lemley of Dundee, Cathy (Jim) Dolezal of Maybee, John (Naomi) Spaulding of Milan, Jeff (Kathy) Spaulding of Summerfield Township, Candy Spaulding of Dundee, Jason (Trish) Spaulding of Dundee, Jay (Lindsay) Spaulding of Dundee; Robin, Rick, and Ronnie Heiden; and numerous great nieces and nephews.
Friends may gather from 4:00pm until 8:00pm on Thursday; November 3, 2022 and from 10:00am until 11:00am on Friday; November 4, 2022 at Merkle Funeral Service, Dundee; 297 Tecumseh Street, Dundee, Michigan 48131 (734) 529-3156. A Celebration of Her Life will be held on Friday at 11:00am also at Merkles. Procession will follow to Pleasantview Cemetery in Summerfield Township for burial.
