James Richard Berry was born in Toledo, Ohio on February 20, 1948. He was the son of the late Melvin Berry and the late Margaret (Cook) Berry. Jim honorably served his country in the United Stated Air Force from 1966 to 1969. Jim married Judy (DiGregorio) on December 22, 1972 in Toledo. From this union would come the birth of two daughters: Dorian and Lindsay. Jim worked hard and supported his family for more than thirty-six years as a Die Caster for General Motors Power Train Plant. He was a member of the United Auto Workers Local 14. Jim loved and cherished his wife, children, and grandchildren, and was very close to them. He took pride in his yard, and loved feeding the birds. He was also a devoted Tigers fan. Jim enjoyed traveling with his family, and attending military shows. Jim, age 66 of Ida passed away at Hospice of Northwest Ohio on Saturday, September 27, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. His passing was preceded by both parents and a sister: Sandra Jean Price, and his sweet 'Kitty-Cat Kitty-Cat' who he was looking forward to seeing again. To cherish his memory Jim leaves his wife of forty-one years: Judy of Ida; two daughters: Dorian (Kenny) Harmon of Monroe; Lindsay (Terry) Collingsworth of Petersburg; siblings: Marlene (Rick) Rudey of Rockford, Illinois, and Kathy ( Jim) Kaczmarski of Sylvania, Ohio; two grandchildren: Carolina 'Tweety', and Kacie Elaine; three step-grandchildren: Gage, Connor, and Drew. Friends may gather from 2:00pm until 8:00pm on Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at Merkle Funeral Service; 9156 Summit Street in Erie (734) 848-5185. A Celebration of His Life will take place at 11:00am on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 also at Merkle's with Reverend Tim Iocoangeli, Associate Pastor of Monroe Missionary Baptist Church officiating. Family will have a private burial following at Lulu Cemetery, Ida.
