December 12, 1940 - August 29, 2014
LaVern Francis Reaume was born in Monroe on December 12, 1940. He was one of four children born from the union of the late Leo S. and Mabel H. (Van Wassehnova) Reaume. LaVern grew up on the family farm in Newport. At an early age he would learn the value of hard work and the importance of family. The Reaume's worshipped at St. Charles Parish and he graduated in 1959 from Monroe Catholic Central.
LaVern married the love of his life, Bonnie Sue Brown, on November 24, 1962. From their union would come the birth of three children. LaVern was very devoted to his family. He worked hard and supported them as a Wood Frame Technician for La Z Boy retiring after thirty-six years of service.
He was a loving, wonderful, and mild mannered man always sharing a smile. LaVern cherished every moment he spent with family, and after retirement he often watched over the grandchildren while tinkering around the house. He was known for his love for animals. LaVern enjoyed worshipping at Frenchtown Missionary Baptist Church.
LaVern, age 73 of Newport passed away at home on Friday, August 29, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. He had been under the care of Great Lakes Caring Hospice. In addition to his parents, his passing was preceded by three brothers: Ralph, Cletus and Russell.
To cherish his memory, LaVern leaves a wife of fifty-one years: Bonnie of Newport; two sons: Jeffrey (Dawn Clark) Reaume and Steven (Lisa) Reaume; one daughter: Julie (Terry) Hammer; a sister-in-law: Marian Reaume; ten grandchildren: Jeremy, Heather, Jeffrey II, Lauren, Jason and Chelsea Reaume, Lindsey and Zachary Hammer, Sierra Clark (Joel Grubb) and Cody Clark: four great grandchildren: Abygayle Reaume, Conner Woods, Camden and Wesley Grubb with one on the way; and many nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place. Friends may gather from 9:30am until a Celebration of His Life at 11:00am at Frenchtown Missionary Baptist Church, 225 West Hurd Wednesday, September 3, 2014 with Pastor B.J. McDaniel officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe (734) 384-5185.
