Lyn M. Richardson, joined the Merkle Funeral Service Family in June of 2009.
She helps out in both administrative support and family services, wherever there is a need. Because of her love for pets, Lyn writes the life stories for Our Beloved Companions and sets up their memory book pages on our website.
Lyn is a lifelong resident of Monroe County, having been raised in Carleton. She married Art Richardson on October 31, 1975 and they now reside lakeside in Luna Pier, where they have been since 2000.
Art and Lyn own the very popular Oregon Inn On Bayshore in Oregon, Ohio, an upscale casual dining restaurant. They are both enjoying their "second careers" at this stage of their lives.
Lyn graduated from Saint Mary Academy and has taken accounting classes
at Monroe County Community College. She worked in the hospitality industry
for over 20 years either at the front desk or in administrative and accounting at Holiday Inn, Ramada Inn and Hotel Sofitel. Before coming to MFS, she was the Office Manager for Monroe Rubber and Plastic Supply where she was employed for 21 years.
Making time for family and lifelong friends tops Lyn's list of favorite things to do, followed by reading mysteries, paper arts, scrap booking and travel. She and Art are members of the Luna Pier Business Association, where she serves as an officer and also represents MFS at the meetings. Lyn is also a member of the American Legion Post 193 Ladies Auxiliary in Luna Pier in honor of her father who served in WWII.
Head Floral Designer
Jane Woodbury joined the team at Merkle’s in June of 2013 as the lead Floral Designer. She has been a part of the Monroe community for a lifetime. She graduated from Monroe High school in the spring of 1980. Jane is married to retired Monroe City Firefighter and Firefighter instructor Ralph Woodbury Jr. Together they have three children, Rebecca, William and Hannah (Schmitz), and Alexandra. They have five “grand” dogs: Rosco, Tucker, Charlie, Lily, and Mojo; and a cat Lucy.
Jane has more than 30 years of experience within the Floral Industry starting as Christmas help at the North Monroe Greenhouse in 1977. She worked for Old Town Floral Designs before purchasing the business in March of 2002. In 2007 She moved the business inside Merkle Funeral Service, changing the name to Floral Expressions.
Jane is a current member of the Michigan State Floral Association and a former member, president, vice president of Business Network International, Chapter 1 Monroe, Michigan, and the current secretary for Military families of Monroe County. She is a former member and grief counselor with the Toledo Hospital CARE Group for bereaved parents. In her free time she enjoys gardening, swimming, and spending time with family and friends.
Vickie Zochowski joined the team at Merkle’s in July of 2013 as a Floral Designer. She has been lifetime member of the Monroe community. Vickie was recently widowed after a twenty-seven year marriage to David. Together they have three children, Troy, Kelsey and Nicole Zochowski.
Vickie has more than 10 years of experience within the Floral Industry. Her strong passion for flowers led her to owning Brest Bay Florist until closing to take care of her family.
Vickie is a current member of St. Charles Catholic Church in Newport, where she and her family attend regularly. In her free time she enjoys gardening, reading, and spending time with family and friends.
She may be the smallest member of our Merkle Team, but her responsibilities are some of the largest. Lola is a Cock-A-Poo, born June 9, 2008 and is a frequent fixture at any of the Merkle Funeral Service locations. Lola completed Basic Obedience Training at Dundee K9 on October 23, 2009. She loves people and has shown the keen instinct and ability to know when a person is grieving and needs to be comforted. Sometimes just her close presence brings comfort, but she also knows when she needs to be much closer to help and will usually find her way into that person's lap or next to them on the couch or chair.
Because of this ability, Lola has gone on to complete Canine Good Manners Class on November 15, 2012. She has completed her Therapy Dogs International testing and has obtained certification.
Merkle Funeral Service families often request to have Lola present at their Gathering and/or Celebration of Life and she is very happy when she gets to officially "work". When she is not working, she loves to spend her time with the Merkle children and her fellow members of the Merkle Funeral Service staff.
