Obituary of James E. Longenbarger

James Edward Longenbarger, age 74, of Dundee, Michigan passed away on Friday, February 23, 2018 at the Hospice of NW Ohio in Perrysburg. H e was born in Toledo, Ohio June 1, 1943 the son of Leonard Donald and Betty Rae (Rouse) Longenbarger. He married the former Barbara Sue Joughin on January 15, 1966 at Hudson, Michigan. Following graduation from high school Jim started working for Jansen Tool & Die from 1962-1977. He then went to work at Ford Motor Co. from 1977 until retiring in 2003 as a journeyman tool & die maker. He had worked at the Milan and Saline Plants. He was very proud of his Masonic Memberships and the Zenobia Shrine in Toledo. He joined Sanford Collins at the age of 21 until a merger occurred with Northern Light Lodge serving a total of 53 years. He served as a member and eventually a director. Occasionally a person comes into your life with jocularity, levity and quips that can lighten any dark day or heavy heart. Jim was blessed with this ability. He loved his family, spouse, children, their spouses and all of his grandchildren, even his grand-dog, Stanley, as well as all the friends. As soon as you met him, you felt like you knew him his entire life. He also had his serious side but you more often saw the fun side of him. He had coached baseball when his kids were younger and was a long time member and supporter of the Dundee United Methodist Church. His survivors include his wife Barb; children Daniel (Kathryn) Longenbarger; John (Tina) Longenbarger and Traci Ann (Courtney Kohloff) Longenbarger; brother Charles (Ann) Longenbarger, sister Diana (Mike) Edwards; aunt Jacqueline Rouse; grandchildren Jordan, Hope, Alex, Medeline, Sean, Olivia and Ethan. He was preceded in death by his parents. Friends may call 0n Sunday from 1 – 8 PM at the Cover Funeral Home, 297 Tecumseh Street in Dundee (734-529-3156). He will lie in state from 10 AM until 11 AM services Monday, February 26, 2018 at the Dundee United Methodist. Officiating will be Rev. Andy Baek, church pastor. Cremation will follow the services with inurnment at Ottawa Hills Memorial, Park Cemetery.
