Obituary of Troy Michael McCarty

Please share a memory of Troy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Troy Michael McCarty was born on July 21, 1971, in Trenton, Michigan.  He was the son of Dianne (Rock) Lewis and Gordon E. McCarty.  He attended Jefferson School, graduating from Jefferson High School with the Class of 1989.

Troy was a hard worker.  He provided for himself and supported his lifestyle working as a welder at Kilgour for more than fifteen years.

Troy loved being outdoors, and during the summer months he spent as much of his free time as possible in a kayak exploring the local lakes and rivers.  He also enjoyed off-roading in his Razr.  When the seasons changed so did his mode of outdoor transportation.  Troy quickly loaded up his snowmobile and ventured north to Kalkaska, Michigan to run the trails with friends.

Troy was best known for his generous spirit, willing to help anyone that was in need.  For a period, he owned and operated a feed mill.  Whenever his path crossed that of an older lady struggling to buy feed, he graciously accepted what they had.  Furthermore, if Troy learned that they needed help cleaning out their stalls, one could bet he stopped by after closing the shop for the day to help clean.

Troy’s best friend was a Jack Russell Terrier that he rightfully so named “Jack”.  The two of them were inseparable doing everything together.  Troy liked to have a good time and was often quoted as saying, “No one has more fun than Big Troy of Sumpter.”

Troy Michael McCarty, age 52, of Sumpter, Michigan passed away at Trinity Health Ann Arbor Hospital in Ypsilanti, Michigan on Saturday; November 25, 2023.  His passing was preceded by his grandparents: Dorothy and Alex Rock and T.
