Obituary of Michael Musko

Please share a memory of Michael to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Michael “Mike” Musko was born on November 7, 1954, in Detroit, Michigan.  He began his educational endeavors in the Detroit Public School System prior to his family moving to Monroe County while he was in high school.  He then enrolled at Jefferson High School, graduating with the Class of 1973.

Mike took a position with the Ford Motor Company, becoming gainfully employed as a Millwright.  He remained in this capacity for several years until declining health required that he take a medical retirement in 1991.  On September 17, 1988, Mike married the love of his life, the former Dawn Marie Pete. The happy couple was blessed with the birth of two children.

From the time that he was a young boy, Mike demonstrated a passion for the great outdoors, and especially enjoyed the thrill of hunting.  Regardless of how he felt, he made sure every fall to embark on his annual hunting trip, although sometimes this meant seeking solace in the truck or resting in the hotel room.  Mike’s hunting expeditions spanned far and wide, with a particular fondness for the Hillsdale area and various hunting grounds across Northern Michigan. These ventures allowed him to connect with nature and the thrill of the chase, creating enduring memories and stories to be shared with loved ones for generations to come.

While hunting held a special place in Mike’s heart, his love for his family was unparalleled. He had an unconditional adoration for his wife Dawn and happily attended family functions, cherishing every moment spent alongside his loved ones. Mike was very active in the lives of his grandchildren, taking immense pride and unwavering support while watching his grandson, Haydn, a Dundee wrestler. Likewise, seeing his granddaughter, Bella, excel in cheer brought him immeasurable joy.

Although Mike didn’t realize he was an animal lover…he was left with no real choice by being married to Dawn.   For many years she was employed at the Monroe County Humane Society and being the wonderful person she was, fostered kittens on a regular basis.  Mike soon found his home complete with the addition of nine beloved cats and a loyal dog. This furry family truly brought him immeasurable warmth and companionship, thoroughly enriching their lives.

Michael Musko, age 69, of Monroe, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday; November 24, 2023, at 8:04pm.  He was surrounded by his family and under the care of ProMedica Heartland Hospice.
