Obituary of Matthew Paul Baldwin
Matthew Paul Baldwin was born in Toledo, Ohio on December 6, 1972. He was one of three children, the son of John Raymond Baldwin and Linda Paulette (Berkau) Baldwin. He was educated through Erie Mason Consolidated School System, and at a young age showed a natural artistic ability. While in first grade he submitted a drawing of Toucan Sam for a national competition, and with his creative spirit won a bike. With his Mother working for Toledo Christian School he finished his last year of high school there and graduated Class of 1991. Matt continued his education at the University of Toledo, where he once again won an award for a political cartoon that he created for the college news paper.
For thirty-one years, Matt was employed as a package handler by United Parcel Service (UPS). A member of Teamsters Local 20, he served as Union Steward for many years. He was a problem solver, constantly working tirelessly to defuse employee issues. Matt was very detailed oriented and knew the company handbook cover to cover. With his knowledge, he was someone you always wanted on your side. He retired in December of 2022.
Matt moved to Rossford, Ohio in 2015 where he met the love of his life, Ashley Ann Reneau. The couple was joined in marriage on March 18, 2019. Although having a blended family can be difficult the children bonded from the beginning and Matt would tell people that because of the kids relationship and how much Ashley's cat Pudgie loved him as well that's how he won her over.
Not one to sit around, Matt took a position in March of 2023 at a local watering hole, Danny's in Rossford. With Ashley being in nursing school he wanted to stay busy. He washed dishes, helped out the servers and bartenders with whatever they needed, lending a helping hand with a smile on his face.
Matthew had a huge heart and an incredible sense of humor. He had no qualms about being the life of the party. His gregarious nature made him a joy to be around. Matthew displayed his artistic talents throughout his life. From the drawings that he created to his amazing passion for Halloween. He met his soul mate in Ashley, as each year, they eagerly looked forward to dressing up and embracing the festive spirit. Their love for the extraordinary brought smiles to those around him, and only solidified the bond that they had.
Matthew Paul Baldwin, age 50 of Rossford, Ohio passed away unexpectedly at home on Wednesday; October 25, 2023. His passing was preceded by his father: John Raymond Baldwin on September 18, 2021.
To cherish his memory, he leaves his beloved wife: Ashley Ann Baldwin of Rossford; his mother: Linda Paulette Baldwin of Erie; three children, sons: Nathanael and Gabriel and stepdaughter: Trinity; a sister: Paula (Nick) Mariano of Oregon, Ohio; a brother: John (Treassa) Baldwin of Erie; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may gather from 12:00pm until 2:00pm on Saturday; November 4, 2023, at Merkle Funeral Service, Erie; 9156 Summit Street, Erie, Michigan 48133 (734) 317-7199. A Celebration of His Life will follow at 2:00pm also at Merkle’s. Cremation has taken place through the on-site crematory, Covenant Cremation of Erie, Michigan.
