Obituary of Walter E. Snell

Walter E. Snell, age 80, of Dundee, Michigan passed away on Tuesday morning , March 13, 2012 at his home. He was born in London Township, Michigan April 2, 1931 the son of Jay and Lavella I. (Miller) Snell. He graduated from Milan High School Class of 1949. He also served in the United States Army attaining the rank of corporal. He enlisted July 11, 1949 and was honorably discharged December 9, 1952. He married Barbara A. Good March 14, 1953 at the Rea Methodist Church. They celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 2003. He was employed at Tecumseh Products Company in Tecumseh retiring in 1994. He loved gardening; camping; hunting and fishing and archery. He helped build the Dundee Sportsman Club and was the secretary of the United Products Union. He is also a member of the Dundee United Methodist Church. One of the things he was proudest of besides his family was his active participation and 25 year member in AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) where he helped start the Dundee AA organization. Survivors include his wife Barbara; son Ronald (Kelle) Snell of Dundee; daughters Karen Snell of Monroe, Diana Good of Saline and Nancy (Paul) VanDevelde of Dundee; grandchildren Melissa Taylor, Jessica Snell, Anthony McClain, Douglas McClain, Holly Snell, Christina McClain, Katie Snell, Daniel Snell and Cameron Vasher; great-grandchildren Corben McClain, Ella Muller, Noah Taylor, Mason McClain and Zoey Muller.; sisters Carol (Andy) Pentercs of Dundee and Mary (Delbert) Wayne of Lulu. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings William and Carl Snell and Grace Burns and Joyce Snell. Friends may call Friday from 1 – 9 P.M. at Cover Funeral Home, 297 Tecumseh Street in Dundee (734-529-3156) He will lie in state from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. services Saturday, March 17, 2012 at the Dundee United Methodist Church, 645 Franklin Street.. Officiating will be Rev. Douglas Olsen. Interment will follow the service at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dundee with graveside services conducted by the Dundee Veterans memorial Group.
