Obituary of Thomas "Tom" Eugene Dickey

Thomas Eugene Dickey was born on August 8, 1937 in Reynoldsville, Pennsylvania.   He was one of five children born from the union of the late James Dickey and the late Dora (Deemer) Dickey.   Tom enlisted in the United States Army in January of 1960 and served his country honorably until December of 1962.

Tom was a hardworking and dedicated provider for his family.   He was employed by Detroit Edison for more than thirty years as a welder before his retirement in 1998.   Tom married the love of his life, Phyllis E. (Klaes) Zunk, on March 24, 2006.   Together the couple had a blended family of nine children.  

Tom more than anything loved the company of his family.   He was always the center of conversation.   In his free time he loved to ride motorcycles for many years, the freedom they afforded and the feel of the wind on his face were exhilarating.   Tom also enjoyed playing golf.   He and Phyllis had enjoyed traveling and taking vacations for many years.   He was a past member of the Newport Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3943 and after its closing became a member of the Monroe Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1138.

Thomas Eugene Dickey age 80 of Monroe passed away at home on Wednesday, August 1, 2018.   His beloved family was at his side and he had been under the care of Great Lakes Caring Hospice.   In addition to his parents his passing was preceded by all of his siblings.

To cherish his memory he leaves his wife Phyllis of Monroe, three children:  Vickie (John) Soltis, Angie Feltner, and Jeff Dickey; four step children:  Mark Klaes, Amanda (Nick) Steffes, Gina Bannon, and Shayna Zunk; twelve grandchildren; many great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends may gather from 2:00pm until 7:00pm on Friday, August 3, 2018 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185.   Members of Monroe Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1138 will provide military honors at 7:00pm and a Celebration of His Life will follow with Chaplain Jack Vanacker of Great Caring Hospice officiating.
