Obituary of Timothy Leis

Timothy Emil Leis was born in Toledo, Ohio on October 20, 1960. Timothy was the son of the late Leonard Leis and Margaret (Byres) Leis. Timothy following high school enlisted in the United States Navy serving from 1978 until 1989. Prior to being discharged he had obtained the rank of E-6. Timothy or Slim as his friends called him was a member of the Navy Air Balloon Detachment at Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Tim was extremely proud of his Navy service. He spoke fondly of his love for the open water and being at sea. Although Tim missed the Navy, he never regretted leaving the service for his family. All who knew Tim considered him as a good man. He was a man who loved life. Tim also had a He had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren. Slim was an avid hunter and fisher.
While working for the Mac Valve Company in Dundee, Michigan he served as a member of there production team. But more importantly at Mac Valve, Slim would meet the former Sheila Smith. After a yearlong courtship they were married in Hell, Michigan on May 16, 2009.
Timothy Emil "Slim" Leis age 49 of Dundee passed away at 10:10am; Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at the Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He had fallen ill while visiting a friend several weeks ago. His passing in addition to his father was preceded by three brothers: Leonard, Bobby, and Tommy Leis.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife: Sheila of Dundee; one son: Jonathan (Amanda) Leis of Monroe; one daughter: Jessica Leis of Monroe; his mother: Margaret May Leis of Florence, South Carolina; two sisters: Ella (Dan) Breeding of Florence and Lori (Ricky) Angel of Monroe; two grandchildren: McKenna and Madison and one grandchild on the way; and two close longtime friends: Jack Calvin and John Grancitelli.
Friends may gather from 2:00pm until 8:00pm; Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185. A Celebration of His Life will take place at 11:00am on Wednesday, December 30, 2009 also at Merkle's with the Rev. Gary Pickrell of Victory Temple Church officiating. Procession will follow to Ottawa Hills Memorial Park in Toledo for interment.
