I was a classmate of Eric's at MTU. I could tell right away that he was a good guy. I hadn't seen him since graduation until he came back to Laurium for a visit. It was accidental meeting him. I don't think we recognized each other after such a long time. Felt good to see him again.

Dear Stephanie,Steven,Bruce and Family. I grew up with Eric in the UP. We used to sleep on their porch and in our tree house on the warm summer nights. Many great times and memories. Our friendship continued for twenty seven years until we both left the UP for work. I always looked forward to a chance to reconnect with Eric when we went to the UP on vacation. The stars never lined up. If you ever met Eric you had to Love Him. Everyone I know did. Even though I havent seen him since 1970, I remember and see him like yesterday. He will always be in my thoughts. He was a specail person and friend always. God Bless. Peter

To Eric's family I would like to say that we were friends over 35 years ago up north in the Copper Country. He was the type of guy everyone would like to have as a friend. Always had a smile on his face and enjoyed life and his Corvette. He sure loved that car. I worked at the same hospital for 30 years as his sister Bea and I believe the last time I saw Eric it was there about 20 years ago. Bob and I would like to send you all our deepest sympathy in the lose of Eric in your lives. I have nothing but fine memories of our friendship and will always miss him. God bless you, Linda & Bob Kiviniemi

Dear Stephanie, Steven, Bruce and families, I was so saddened when I picked up our local paper (The Mining Gazette} tonight and learned of Eric's passing. My heartfelt sympathy to you and yours at this time. Eric and my family grew up on Florida St. in Laurium, Mi. It was a neiborhood full of kids and we all played together. The memories of those days gone by will never be forgotten, nor will Eric. He was such a kind and gentle person, with a wonderful family. May your memories help to comfort you always and may God bless you all. Lovingly, Charlsie

Eric and I were childhood and young adult close friends. We were born only two weeks apart. We grew up and lived through some turbulent times... the sixties, Vietnam, times of great change. Eric was an inspiration for all of his friends; keeping an outlook on life that encouraged us all to look forward to better things. He did this by his own example of self-improvement and cheerful outlook on life. As teenagers, we spent thousands of hours, doing the things that all teenagers do...cruising in his '57 Chevy (later, a Pontiac GTO); listening to the current music hits on WLS (Chicago)radio; going to a teen hangout called "Action Spot"; and experiencing growing up with a few girlfriends (until we found the "right one"). I went into the military, and we kept in contact...he remained a true friend, even though we were on separate sides of the world. We went through college together, coincidentally studying for the same career. He was always willing to help with any study problems that anyone in our classes had...taking the time from his own studies to do so. We all will be diminished by his selflessness and giving nature. Although we were separated by life's twists and turns...He always was a part of my life, even though only in my memories and hopes to meet again on that long journey to the promised land. I never said it to you, Eric, but I Love You as my own brother. Jack Alan Honkanen

Eric is the reason I got to know so many people so well when I began working at Fermi back in 1997. One thing he was always good for was breaking up the day a bit when needed with some humour or an interesting story(one never knew what the story might be any given day). Of course I know anyone who worked there when we sat on the north side of the AIB will remember the immense hot sauce collection. It was amazing how often people would come by around lunch just looking for that extra kick to go with there food. Eric always took pride in his work and always offered encouragement to me on mine...thus helping me to always take pride in my work. Eric and I also had some similar tastes in and a mutual love for music. Of course, he was a huge Beatles fan..they were a bit before my time though. Any time I am playing any trivia and a Beatles question comes up, I always think "If Eric were here I would get this right!". Working with Eric I felt like part of his family at times. He always talked about them with pride (not to say Steve didn't frustrate him by not cleaning the cat boxes now and again haha). I feel like I watched Steven grow up without ever having met him until last year..and he has grown into quite a young man. Steven started playing base guitar as he got older and you could see the pride in Eric's eyes when he would talk about that(Eric got Steve into it as he played base guitar when he was younger)..and he loved to talk about Steve's music endeavors. He was definitely very proud of Steven. And I think the coolest thing that happened to Eric was Stephanie and him finally getting married in the last couple of years...kind of completed things in my eyes. It may sound odd to some..but at least that is one regret that won't be had..not having gotten married after all those years together and producing a great young man in Steven. RIP Eric..you will be missed eh!

Eric was one of those people who would go out of his way to help you in any way he could. I first mt him in Maintenance when I can to work in Licensing. He was a great person to work with through out the years and loved to tell stories of all the pets and Steve. He will be missed.

Stephy and Steven....my deepest condolences on your loss. Eric was a great friend at Fermi to me and taught me a lot at work..and a bit about life in general. Know that he talked about you two with passion and pride very often. Steve...I know he loved what you two share with music...maybe you will channel your dad when you play in the future. One more thing...Steve....clean the cat boxes ;).
