Richard Arnold Breitner September 9, 1924 - December 10, 2010 Richard Arnold Breitner was born in Detroit, Michigan on September 9, 1924. He was the son of the late James B. Breitner and the late Dorothy A. Day. Richard attended Monroe schools and graduated from Monroe High School with the Class of 1942. He served his country honorably as a member of the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean War. Richard worked more than thirty-five years for the General Motors Company. He spent many years as a machine operator before his retirement. Richard was a member of several different local organizations. He was the President of the Fraternal Order of Eagles 197 from 2008 to 2009. Richard was a member of the Sylvania Moose Lodge, the Rossford Eagles, and the American Legion Post 193 in Luna Pier. He is best remembered as a gentle man that was well loved. He was passionate about his love of God and his country. Richard was also known as a doer. He enjoyed swimming, dancing, singing, and exercising which he did three days a week at the fitness center. Richard was very fussy about his looks, and was never able to leave home before noon. Richard Arnold Breitner age 86 of Luna Pier passed away at 12:50am, Friday, December 10, 2010 in the emergency department at St. Anne Mercy Hospital. In addition to his parents his passing was preceded by a sister: Maxine. He leaves to cherish his memory three stepchildren: Sueann Crandall, David Carr, and Marilyn Hellberg; two brothers: Alvin and Helen Breitner of Port Huron and James and Marcella Breitner of LaSalle; and one very special friend: Vivian Stallfus. Private graveside services are planned. Burial will take place at Roselawn Memorial Park in LaSalle. Merkle Funeral Service, 9156 Summit Street in Erie (734) 848-5185 was entrusted with his arrangements. Memorial donations are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.
