Penny Marie Reaume
January 1, 1960 - October 1, 2010
Penny Marie Reaume was born at Mercy Hospital in Monroe, Michigan on January 1, 1960. She was one of six children born from the union of the late Walter Reaume and Evelyn (Bastien) Reaume. Penny grew up in Newport and attended St. Charles Church and its grade school. She earned her G.E.D. through the Monroe County Intermediate School District.
Penny was well known for her generous heart and she enjoyed helping others. She was even considered a caretaker by many. Penny was an animal lover, but had a special place in her heart for cats and dogs.
Penny never obtained her driver's license, but that didn't slow her down. She enjoyed getting around by foot or taking her bike to anyplace that she needed. She also like to color and loved to visit garage sales looking for treasure!
This past summer, Penny also took the opportunity to participate with the Relay for Life at the Monroe County Fairgrounds. Although, very weak, Penny was pleased with her ability to complete one lap herself.
Penny age 50 of Monroe passed away at 10:53pm Friday, October 1, 2010 at home. She was surrounded by her loving family and had been under the care of Mercy Memorial Hospice. In addition to her father on May 23, 1994 her passing was preceded by a brother: Russell Joseph Reaume; and a brother-in-law: William "Bill" LaFountain Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memory her mother: Evelyn Reaume of Monroe; three sisters: Judy (Ray)Goethe of Alger, Michigan; Sally (John)Harper of Monroe; and Joyce (Frank)Chavez of Monroe; one brother: Walter (Carol) Reaume Jr. of Monroe; six nieces, two nephews, three great nieces, six great nephews, and one great-great nephew.
Friends may gather from 5:00pm until 8:00pm, Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185. A Rosary service will be led by JoAnn Allore at 7:00pm. Penny will lie in state from 10:00am until the Mass of the Resurrection at 11:00am on Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 924 East Second Street. A meal will follow at the Monroe Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 884, 1320 North Macomb Street.
