Michael Andrew Meyer Sr.
November 15, 1941 - May 1, 2016
Michael Andrew Meyer Sr. was born November 15, 1941 in Monroe. He was the son of the late George and Rita (Steinman) Meyer. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp serving honorably from December of 1962 until January of 1965. He served as a Tank Crewman and Tractor Operator.
Michael married the former Carol Wood in 1961. He would later marry Silver "Sylvia" Mae (Reddish) in 1978. After Sylvia's passing on May 31, 1994 he would be rejoined with his first love Carol in 1999. She passed away September 21, 2012.
Michael loved helping others. He began a career in towing and recovery in the 1960's employed by Harry May. He set out on his own in 1975 as the owner and operator of "Mike's Towing". He would also serve as a member of the Monroe Township Volunteer Fire Department for more than twenty-two years rising to the rank of Lieutenant Engineer.
Michael was very outgoing known for his flirtatious spirit and his ability to socialize with anyone. He was a league bowler for more than twenty-five years at the Monroe Sports Center. He enjoyed being outside; hunting, camping, fishing and boating.
Michael Andrew Meyer Sr., age 74, passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2016. In addition to his parents and wives, his passing was preceded by children: Wanda Caylor, Mark Lee Thompson, Connie Meyer, Bonnie Meyer and Michael Meyer Jr.; sister: Mary Lou (Buck) Taylor; brothers: Louie (Brenda) Wohlfeil and Bill (Barb) Steinman; and grandchildren: Jason Fletcher and David A. Meyer Jr.
To cherish his memory, he leaves three children: David (Sheryl) Meyer of Swanton, Ohio, Deanna Foster of Coleman, Michigan, and Michael (Teresa Wilson-Meyer) Meyer Jr. of Dundee; three sisters: Lorie (George) Webber, Linda (Paul) Gerard, Elinor Bayer; thirteen grandchildren: Rhonda Wymer, Melissa Mayes, Lisa Frizzell, Crystal Fletcher, Dakota Thompson, Jae McKown, Nichole Ruch, Jonathan Meyer, Micheal Foster, Brandon Michael Andrew Meyer, and Jeremy Arthur Meyer; and nineteen great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren with one on the way.
Friends may gather from 2:00-8:00pm on Thursday, May 5, 2016 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe (734) 384-5185. A Celebration of His Life will take place at 11:00am on Friday, May 6 also at Merkle's with Pastor Mark Witte officiating. Procession will follow to Roselawn.
