Obituary of Barbara Kitts

Please share a memory of Barbara to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Barbara Jean (Bonenfant) Kitts was born in Calumet, Michigan on March 16, 1940. She was one of six children born from the union of the late Raymond Mortti and the late Marie (Nault) Mortti. Barbara was educated at Sacred Heart in Calumet. She moved from the Upper Peninsula to Monroe in 1964 where she would raise her rapidly growing family. She was extremely proud of her children and tirelessly provided for them. For many years, she worked as a Nurse's Aide at Greenbrook Manor (now Medilodge of Monroe). After taking a medical retirement, she continued to focus her efforts on serving others. The Salvation Army became her mission where she work and volunteer for more than twenty years. Most Wednesday nights, Barbara could be found in the Army kitchen preparing dinner for the children. She spent many Christmas seasons processing applications or distributing gifts to needy families. She also was a constant fixture at Home League and Camp. Barbara loved the water. She spent countless hours at Bolles Harbor watching the tide or walking along the River Raisin. More than anything, Barbara, loved her family. She enjoyed holiday get-togethers, birthday celebrations, and cookouts. These were all great opportunities to spend time with her loved ones visiting and catching up. Barbara Jean Kitts, age 75, of Newport passed away at 4:52 pm on Sunday, January 17, 2016 at the Beaumont Hospital-Trenton. In addition to her parents her passing was preceded by a brother: Bruce Bonenfant. To cherish her memory Barbara leaves six beloved children: Charles "Chuck" Kitts of Newport, Tammy Cooper of Monroe, Clyde Kitts of Monroe, Curt Kitts of Monroe, Craig Kitts of Ida and Toni Kitts of Toledo; a brother: Mark Mortti; three sisters: Karen Moilanen, Judy Schulte, and Sandra (John) Scotti; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren; and best buddy, a little dog named Buster. Friends may gather from 10:00am until 11:00am on Thursday, January 21, 2016 at the Salvation Army, 815 East First Street. A Celebration of Her Life will follow at 11:00am with Captain Rob Whitney of the Salvation Army officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185. In lieu of flowers Memorials are suggested to the Salvation Army.
