Obituary of William DuVall

William Lawrence DuVall was born in Erie on July 19, 1931. He was one of three children born from the union of the late Samuel and Luella (Perry) DuVall. William enlisted in the United States Navy serving honorably from October 1951-September 1955.
He married the love of his life the former, Miriam L. Schalitz on September 14, 1957 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Temperance. From this union would come the birth of two beautiful daughters. William was an extremely hard worker and tirelessly provided for his family. For many years he traveled the Great Lakes working as a dredgeman. Later he took a position in skilled trades as a welder for Ford Motor Company. He retired in 1994.
A proud American Veteran, William was an active member of the James E. Yenor, American Legion Post 193 in Luna Pier. He had attended St. Joseph Catholic Church in Erie.
William loved to garden, and gardening was one of his gifts. He enjoyed tending to his half acre plot, harvesting plenty, and sharing his take with any and every person. He was also an excellent welder, and the local go-to guy. William was blessed with a plethora of knowledge, and he was always willing to lend a helping hand.
William, age 84 of Erie entered eternal rest at 1:12am, Thursday, January 16, 2016 at Ebeid Hospice Residence in Sylvania. In addition to his parents his passing was preceded by his wife on August 4, 2008.
To cherish his memory, William leaves two beloved daughters: Kim (John) Cabacum of Maumee and Robin (Todd) Deal of Luna Pier; sister: JoAnn (James) Vance; brother: Clifton (Patricia) DuVall; seven grandchildren: Sophia (Christopher) Dean, Orianna (Jonathan) Lindau, Tiffany (Heath) Ridenbaugh, Jacob (Ana) Deal, Luke Deal, Gabriel Deal, and Miriam Deal; and six great grandchildren.
Friends may gather from 9:00am until 11:00am on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Merkle Funeral Service, 9156 Summit Street, Erie (734) 848-5185. The Resurrection Service will follow at 11:00am with his grandson, Seminarian Jacob Deal officiating. Procession will follow to LaSalle Township Cemetery for burial where graveside services will be under the auspices of Erie VFW Post 3943. A luncheon will then be hosted at the Legion Post 193; 11045 Harold Drive, Luna Pier.
