Robert Holland Melvin was born in East Liverpool, Ohio on March 20, 1932. He was one of seven children born from the union of the late Hayes and Mildred (Glaser) Melvin. He grew up in East Liverpool where he attended East Liverpool High School.
He married the love of his life the former Barbara Reynolds on October 7th, 1952. From this union the couple would share in the birth of two sons. For more than thirty years, Robert supported his family as a Service Station Manager for Tulsa. The family moved several times as Robert's responsibilities changed making their home in Monroe, Lansing, Jackson, and East Liverpool. In 2008 he and Barbara moved back to Monroe to be closer to family.
Robert enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and his loving dog: Baby.
Robert Melvin, age 83 of Monroe passed away at 4:43pm on Thursday, January 14, 2016 at ProMedica Toledo Hospital. In addition to his parents, his passing was preceded by three brothers: Kenny Melvin, John "Jack" Melvin, and Lunsford Melvin; and two sisters: Stella Mae Scribbner and "Vi" Varsho.
To cherish his memory, Robert leaves his beloved wife of sixty-three years, Barbara of Monroe; two sons: Robert (Donna) Melvin of LaSalle and David (Jeanne) Melvin of Hubert, North Carolina; one brother: Dale (Gerry) Melvin of Bath, Michigan; six grandchildren: Paul, Sylvia, David, Jeanne, Rob and Kristen; and seven great-grandchildren.
No public services have been planned. Private burial will take place at Calcutta United Presbyterian Cemetery in East Liverpool, Ohio. Merkle Funeral Service, South Monroe; 14567 South Dixie Highway (734) 241-7070 has been entrusted with his arrangements.
