Michael Kenneth LaPointe was born in Monroe on April 28, 1967. He was one of three children born from the union of John LaPointe Sr. and Glee (Miller) Taylor. Michael was a 1985 graduate of Monroe Catholic Central High School and went on to receive an Associate's Degree in Automotive Technology at Lawrence Technological University.
Michael supported himself as a Vehicle Development Technician at Chrysler for twenty-one years. Michael was a car enthusiast fascinated with Chrysler and Dodge products. He enjoyed repairing and restoring old cars in the garage. Michael appreciated the outdoors, growing his own vegetables, four wheeling on his property and fishing at Bolles Harbor with his friends and his niece and nephews.
Michael Kenneth LaPointe, age 48, of LaSalle passed away from the effects of an unexpected illness at 4:36am, Sunday, November 29, 2015 at Toledo Hospital surrounded by his family. In addition to his grandparents, his passing was preceded by his brother: John LaPointe Jr.
To cherish his memory he leaves his mother: Glee (John) Taylor of Monroe; his father: John LaPointe Sr. of Monroe; his sister: Amity (Michael) Karim of Danville, California; three aunts: Rita LaPointe of Monroe, Faith (Mark) Dudley of West Melbourne, Florida, and Joy (Ken) Duvall of Monroe; niece and nephews: Kade, Arden, and MAK; several cousins; and his canine companion: "RT."
Friends may gather from 2:00pm to 4:00pm on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at Merkle Funeral Service, 14567 South Dixie Highway, Monroe (734) 241-7070. A Celebration of his Life will follow at 4:00pm on Wednesday, December 2, 2015, also at Merkle's with Pastor Annmarie Kidder of First Presbyterian Church and Pastor Bruce Leaman of Gracepoint UPC Co-officiating.
