Obituary of Helen Hoody

Helen Marie Hoody was born in Monroe on September 7, 1931. She was one of three children born from the union of the late Leo and Mary (Masson) Padot. She was a graduate of St. Mary's Academy in 1949.
Helen married the love of her life, Frederick Hoody, on May 22, 1954 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. They were married for 61 years and had five children.
For twenty-five years, Helen spent her summers in the Upper Peninsula at Newberry, visiting family in Grand Marais, and Peshtigo, Wisconsin. Helen enjoyed spending her beloved "slush fund" along the way. For many years, Helen and Fred spent the winter in Gulf Shores, Alabama, missing the snow, enjoying southern food and playing cards with friends.
Helen Marie Hoody of Erie, Michigan, passed away at age 84 on Saturday, November 7, 2015 at St. Charles Mercy Hospital. Her passing was preceded by her parents.
To cherish her memory, Helen leaves her husband of sixty one year's Frederick; her sisters Dolores Duvall and Marlene Giarmo; a sister-in-law: Wilma Smith; her children: Debra (Pat) Keefe, Diann Hoody, Donna Hoody, Daniel (David Felderstein) Hoody and Donald (Kathleen) Hoody; her grandchildren: Sean (Rhonda) Keefe, Karen (Nick Romano) Hoody, Ryan Keefe, Steven (David Stovicek) Hoody and Keith (Spencer Rizk) Hoody; and a great granddaughter: Rachel Hohendorf.
Friends may gather, Thursday, November 12, 2015 from 2:00pm until 8:00pm at Merkle Funeral Service, Erie, 9156 Summit Street (734) 848-5185. A Celebration of her Life will take place at 11:00am on Friday, November 13, 2015 also at Merkle's with Deacon Ken Trabbic of Saint Joseph's Catholic Church officiating. Procession will follow to Saint Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Monroe for burial.
