Obituary of Lenna Young
Please share a memory of Lenna to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Lenna Stella Sherman was born in Wolverine, Michigan on September 23, 1926. She was one of ten children born from the union of the late Cyrus Albert and Mable Alma (Hayworth) Sherman. She graduated from Wolverine High School in 1946
Lenna married the love of her life, Raymond Young, on March 1, 1947, in Vanderbilt, Michigan. From this union would come the birth of six children. Lenna cared for her family as a homemaker and for thirteen years drove school bus for Mason Consolidated Schools. She was an excellent baker; making delicious homemade bread, pies, and cinnamon rolls.
Spending time with her family and friends was most important to her often keeping up with happenings on Facebook. She was a great storty-teller often sharing tales of days gone by and her youth in Northern Michigan. Lenna enjoyed playing solitaire, participating in Bible study with the women's group of Luna Pier Baptist Church, and was an avid reader of varied interests.
One of her favorite pastimes was travel. After the death of her husband in April of 1982, Lenna purchased a motorhome and she and her trusty canine companion, Pixie, set off to explore. Her jaunts would take her to every state but Oregon, and seven Canadian Provinces. For many years she wintered in Zephyrhills, Florida. Lenna even tried worldwide travel taking trips to Turkey, the Greek Isles, and Tijuana, Mexico.
Lenna Stella Young, age 89 of Luna Pier, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, October 19, 2015 at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo. In addition to her parents and husband her passing was preceded by all nine siblings: Mary, Dick, Harry, Lawrence, Lyman, Albert, Marie, Lova, and Frankie; grandson: Ryan; and great granddaughter: Alaina.
