Obituary of Loda Buell
Please share a memory of Loda to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Loda Victoria Haley was born in Goin, Tennessee on July 27, 1929. She was one of five children born from the union of the late William Haley and Easter (Williams) Haley. She attended school through 9th grade in Tazewell, Tennessee.
Loda was married to the love of her life, Donald Buell, on December 24, 1948 by the Reverend E.E. Patterson. Loda was always a hardworker and in addition to being a homemaker to her husband and two children she often held employment outside the home. She had worked as a laborer for the River Raisin Paper Company, behind the sandwich counter at Muir's, and spent more than twenty years in customer service at K-Mart.
Loda's Christian faith was the most important thing in her life. She cherished frequent attendance at worship. A member of Frenchtown Missionary Baptist Church for fifty-two years, Loda participated with the Women's Missionary Union (WMU), Senior Luncheons, and the widow/widower luncheons. She often shared her relationship with Christ with others.
Loda enjoyed the sanctity of her home but looked forward to Tennessee trips with Donald several times each year. She also enjoyed crocheting, giving her beautiful afghans to her family members as gifts. She was a fantastic cook and used her meals to bring the family together each day around the dining room table.
Loda, age 86 of Monroe, passed away on Friday, October 23, 2015 at Promedica Monroe Regional Hospital under Hospice care. In addition to her parents, her passing was preceded by her beloved husband: Donald; and brother: Emory.
To cherish her memory, Loda leaves two children: Pamela "Penny" Buell and Gregory (Joan) Buell both of Monroe; two sisters: Lois Buell and Beulah Haley (JD) McBee both of Monroe; one brother: Carl (Gerry) Braden of Petersburg; three grandchildren Todd Bolton (Gina Manning) and Jason Buell of Monroe, and Tara (Darren) Cornelison of Italy; and two great grandchildren: Taylor Airn Baker-Buell and Madison Paige Buell.
