Michael Eugene Meranda Sr. was born February 11, 1951 in Muncie, Indiana. He was one of four children born from the union of the late Robert Meranda and the late Mary (Dishman) Meranda.
Michael supported his family employed at Omco as a Welder for forty years, retiring in 2009. He married, Joyce Virden on August 31, 1996 in Winchester, Indiana.
Michael mostly kept to himself; however, would tell it like it was when necessary. He was an avid race car fan, contributing his perfection in performance for fifteen years as the Winchester Speedway Pit Crew Supervisor. When Michael was not at the half mile drag strip or the dirt track, he could be found watching his favorite NASCAR driver, Jeff Gordon or his favorite western Television shows, Gunsmoke and Bonanza.
Michael appreciated the outdoors and enjoyed camping and had a passion for fishing. He loved his family and enjoyed spending special moments with his grandchildren and great grandchild.
Michael Eugene Meranda Sr., age 65, of Newport, passed away at 4:24pm on February 12, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family. In addition to his parents, his passing was preceded by a sister: Marilyn Partin.
To cherish his memory, he leaves his wife of nineteen years, Joyce; two sons: Michael (Missy) Meranda Jr. and Chad Meranda both of Farmland, Indiana; three step-children: Sommer Hill of Monroe, Mickel (Amanda) Hill of Milan and Eric (Collette) Hill of Petersburg; one brother: Rick Meranda of Farmland, Indiana; two sisters: Bonnie (Bruce) Deck of Huntsville, Alabama and Sharon Faller of Farmland, Indiana; six grandchildren: Daniel, Colt, Tiffany, Elizabeth, Layla and Samantha; one great grandchild: Noah; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may gather from 2:00pm until 6:00pm on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street, Monroe (734) 384-5185. A Celebration of His Life will take place at 6:00pm also at Merkle's with Pastor Timothy Iocoangeli of Monroe Missionary Baptist Church officiating.
