Eugene Raymond Stump
March 16, 1928 - July 14, 2015
Eugene Raymond Stump was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on March 16, 1928. He was one of five children born from the union of the late Edward and late Marie (Cattleman) Stump. After schooling, Eugene enlisted in to the military, honorably serving his country with the United States Navy.
Eugene married the love of his life, the former Gertrude Schneider on January 1, 1952 in Indiana. Eugene supported his family for thirty-four years as a hardworking baker with the Wonder Bread Company in Cincinnati and Toledo, retiring in 1990. After retirement, Eugene and Gertrude would make their home in Temperance together.
Eugene was a kind, loving, and dependable man who was absolutely selfless. He loved his family and raised his nieces and nephews as his own. Eugene entertained children by giving them candy and with his grand story telling. His heart had no limits; he was a generous man and friends to everyone, a father to many, never meeting a stranger. Eugene stayed loyal to his home town team, rooting on the Cincinnati Reds.
Eugene age 87 of Temperance passed away on Tuesday; July 14, 2015 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Toledo, Ohio. In addition to his parents, his passing was preceeded by his loving wife of forty-seven years: Gertrude Stump; and a brother: Paul Stump
To cherish his memory he leaves his beloved nieces and nephews: Don (Sharon) Stump Jr. of Petersburg, Rick (DeAndra) Stump of Kansas, Cynthia Bussell of Luna Pier, and Linda (Roy) Snyder of Luna Pier; two sisters: Helen Stump and Marion Stump of Cincinnati; one brother: Donald H. Stump Sr.; eight nieces and nephews; and fifteen great-great nieces and nephews that he was a Grandpa and Great Grandpa to.
Friends and family may gather from 11:00am to 1:00pm on Friday, July 24, 2015 at Merkle Funeral Service, Erie; 9156 Summit Street, Michigan (734)848-5185. A Celebration of His Life will follow at 1:00pm also at Merkle's with Deacon Ken Trabbic of St. Joseph's Catholic Church officiating. Procession will follow to Bedford Cemetery where graveside services will be held under the auspices of the United States Navy and the Erie VFW Post 3925.
