Obituary of Wanda Koenig

Wanda A. (Yoas) Koenig of Newport, was born on November 10th, 1952 to Raymond and Marion (Calkins) Yoas. Wanda was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church. She is a 1971 graduate of Airport High School, after graduation, she started working at Monroe Bank and Trust.
On August 17th, 1973, she married the love of her life Klaus Koenig at Zion Lutheran Church and taking on the role of homemaker, raising their two children, Susanna and Martha. Wanda was active at Zion Lutheran School, while her girls attended, and also helping with the Lutheran Girl Pioneers. As the children got older she started working for the United States Post Office as a substitute rural letter carrier and later became full time. She spent many years delivering in the Newport Area then transferred to Monroe, retiring after 30 years of service.
Wanda and Klaus enjoyed camping and traveling, after retirement she enjoyed going to Florida for a few months during the winter. In the last few years she also helped with judging 4-H projects. Always keeping busy she would scrapbook, paint, and quilt with her friends almost every week.
Wanda A. (Yoas) Koenig, age 63 of Newport passed away at home on Monday, November 23, 2015. She was preceded in death by her father, Raymond Yoas; father-in-law: Hans Koenig; maternal grandparents: Harry and Martha Calkins; paternal grandparents: Edward and Anna Yoas.
Wanda is survived by her husband Klaus of 42 years, daughters: Susanna Koenig-Miller of New Boston, and Martha Westphal of Lakeland, Florida; grandchildren: Jeremy Miller Jr and Kurtis Miller of New Boston and Alexandra Koenig of Lakeland, Florida; mother: Marion (Calkins) Yoas of Newport, mother in law: Rosemarie Koenig of Spring Hill, Florida; brother: Ivan (Diane) Yoas of South Rockwood; brothers-in-law: Peter, Juergen (Lorrie) and Tom (Kathy); sister-in-law: Helga (Mike) Lawler; uncles: Ervin Yoas and Donald Grant; many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Friends may gather on Friday, November 27, 2015 from 2:00pm until 8:00pm at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185. She will lie in state on Saturday, November 28, 2015 from 10:00am until a Funeral Service following at 11:00am at Zion Lutheran Church, 186 Cole Road with Pastor Ross Ulrich officiating. Burial will take place at Roselawn.
