Isabel Mary Vargo was born in Monroe, Michigan on February 6, 1925. She was the daughter of the late John Vargo and the late Emma (Lazette) Vargo. Dorothy as she was known by her family and friends attended St. Joseph and Lincoln Elementary Schools. She then attended Monroe High School.
Dorothy married Charles A. "Bunny" Kranz in Monroe on June 5, 1943. She went to work for Monroe Auto Equipment during World War II to support the effort. She later worked for One Hour Martinizing for several years. She loved annual trips to Las Vegas with her husband and her sister.
Dorothy was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She looked forward to family get-togethers, and she enjoyed cooking for her family around the holidays. Her specialties involved preparing Hungarian and French foods. Dorothy enjoyed making others laugh and she was known for her bluntness and honesty. While a resident at Lutheran Home she liked to play bingo where she found a great deal of success, and loved their live music and entertainment. She loved her sweets.
Isabel Mary "Dorothy" Kranz, age 86 a lifelong Monroe resident passed away at 7:30pm, Saturday, December 24, 2011 at the Lutheran Home of Monroe. In addition to her parents her passing was preceded by her husband: Charles "Bunny" on February 17, 1987; a beloved son: Daniel J. Kranz on February 19, 2005; two daughters-in-law: Carol Kranz and Darva Kranz; a sister: Bertha; a brother: John; and one grandson: Robert Kranz.
To cherish her memory she leaves a son: Gary Kranz of Monroe; two grandchildren: John B. Kranz of Monroe and Barbara S. (Curtis) Durocher of Ottawa Lake; a great grandson: Travis Durocher of Ottawa Lake; a great granddaughter: Delaney Durocher of Ottawa Lake; a sister: Shirley Brooks of Grove City, Pennsylvania; and a special nephew: Terry (Wendy) Brooks of Monroe.
Friends may gather from 9:00am until 11:30am, Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at Merkle Funeral Service, 2442 North Monroe Street (734) 384-5185. A prayer service in her honor will be held at 11:30am with Deacon Mike Stewart of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church officiating. Private burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
