Obituary of Alvie Hurst
Please share a memory of Alvie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Alvie Gene Hurst was born August 27, 1946 in Pruden, Tennesee. He was one of five children born from the union of the late Edward Hurst and Frances (Lambdin) Hurst. Alvie was a graduate of Woodward High School in Toledo, Ohio.
Alvie supported his family as a truck driver for over thirty years at Barron Steel. He married his only love, the former Montie Linkes, at the Presbyterian Church in Monroe on June 13, 1970; together they raised three children.
Alvie loved the Lord and had a humbling spirit. He received his spiritual nourishment and served as a Deacon at Old Fashion Missionary Baptist Church, Toledo where Alvie was a member for forty two years.
With his funny, quick, witted sense of humor, Alvie could light up a room with laughter. You could say he was the family's "personal entertainer." Alvie was the center of his family and enjoyed spending time with them whenever possible, especially the four wheeling trips with "the grandboys & son."
As an avid music fan, Alvie played guitar and sang in the band "6 Gun," and he sang for over fifty weddings, at many parties, in the Old Fashion Missionary Baptist quartet and some funerals throughout the years. Alvie stayed active playing basketball and bowling.
Alvie Gene Hurst, age 68, passed away at 10:05pm on December 27, 2014 at home surrounded by his loving family. His passing was preceded by his father.
To cherish his memory, Alvie leaves his wife of forty four years, Montie Hurst; three children: Robin Gray, Stephanie (Brian) Wingate and Zachary (Christy) Hurst; Buddy Gray (son-in-law) of Erie; two sisters: Rosetta (Charles) Sparks and Alma Berry; two brothers: James (Judy) Hurst; Larry (Cindy) Hurst, four grandchildren: Chance Gray, Hunter Gray, Luke Wingate and Blake Wingate; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews and friends.
